Beauty Haul

Nyx Cosmetics
 Beauty Haul

Today I was just about to start on my Tuesday morning make up routine that I am enjoying getting into right now when a man delivered a brown cardboard parcel - it was my NYX products I ordered from K And Co late last week - and I had to use them straight away - the little pot needs a little brush to use but the lip gloss like one has a sponge hoof applicator - and, as with money, a little goes a long way - seriously you do not need much and you can say goodbye to the baggies under the eyes.  The mineral setting powder is silky smooth.  I am already in love!

Then as I was finishing my brow definition another knock on the door with another man bearing a brown package.  This one had German written on it but the top line of the address was BH Cosmetics.

I was so excited I literally jumped up and down like a little girl - I was holding literally 120 shades in my hands.  I opened the brown box carefully. Thrice wrapped in a large sheet of bubble wrap I saw the bright design of the box.  Playing pass the parcel on my own I opened the actual box only to see another covering of bubble wrap.

Gasping with delight as my eyes fell on the rainbow contained in the little smooth black and very light weight box.

As you can see some of the colours arrived smashed but the main one broken up is not one I, or my mother, are likely to use as neither of us are neutral/brown women.  The colours that matter are sat in all their velvety compact goodness awaiting to be used and brighten up our incoming Autumn and Winter - at least with this pallete we would be able to wear the sunshine on our eyes!

Below are links as to where I ordered these products from.

Rosy Skin - No Warts

Before
So - Roseacea is a problem I have been dealing with for well over ten years now - I definitely would not have fitted the description of The Banks' children ideal nanny as rosy cheeks are one thing - but a constant red angry blotch on both cheeks is quite another!
When ever I have a bath or wash (showers happen very rarely!) I have two seperate routines - in the bath I exfoliate - currently with Good Things blackhead exfoliater and a five minute facial mask that may no longer be affordable - we'll see though ...

Second Step
After a face wash with Simple soap in very warm water I use these products to smooth out my face starting with Nivea Creme, Rosex Metronidazole gel prescribed by the GP.  Finishing with Boots No7 Day cream to smooth things out and help give my face that extra moisture.  The face wipes helps me get the foundation off at night.
Now onto the covering of the redness - an arduous task meaning I have to look at myself in the mirror for half an hour...

Third Step
First of all I gather all of my foundations and powders and my one use brush - because of you tube I found a newer way to put it on so as to make sure the rouge colour disappears - stippling the brush on your cheeks concentrating on the problem area - as you can see up above mine is on the apple of my cheeks.  Second I pump the Max Factor 72 onto my hand then stipple on the back of my hand and start on my problem area - when I have sufficiently covered it I then lighten the tone with the No7 foundation - I am not stating shades we are all different.

Max Factor is fast becoming my favourite brand for foundations - underneath the Stay Perfect foundation is a loose powder I use to help blend the creams in. Both No7 and Max Factor have good consistency but I would say Max Factor is thicker and creamier than the Boots home brand.

Finished Look
Top is from Next
Et voila - the finished effect - after I gently stippled, softly swiped and made sure the face was flawless as I could get it; I finished off  my make up. With some new brushes I brought on Tuesday first I put an old Revlon white colour as a base followed by three shades of purple eyeshadow going from light to dark finishing off with a dark green No7 shade at the outer corner of the eyes to give them some depth, then another old glittery shimmery silver shade to give the lid that extra sparkle.  Using a Barry M pencil and MUA liquid eyeliner to get the flick just right - which I did not quite manage on my right eye - I actually got that intensity I have been longing for with a brow definition as a new trick.  Adding that wow factor with an eyelash curler and Rimmel duo ancient mascara with brand new No7 black.  Giving my lips a pale look with pink lip gloss - a light purple shade both Avon - and a nice red shade of No7 lip liner.

So, I may not do this every day as I have other conditions that sometimes makes it impossible for me to be all made up but I hope you enjoyed reading this - and if you want more detailed skills and pictures please ask.

Dappled Sunshine Amongst The Bluebells

Almost two years ago I met a wonderful woman
on twitter by the name of Susan Bland
through our mutual love for Doctor Who.

A Coil of Bluebells

Then she went on her own journey and decided to create jewellery and what a journey it has been - I have seen her incredible adventure from almost day one.

Sunshine On A String
A few weeks ago she showed a pair of earrings on facebook.  Mum and I loved them at once and ordered some - I chose darker blue and my mother chose yellow.

The fast service and her dedication is a wonder to behold.  You can see how finely packaged these exquisite pieces of accessories came in with this box containing my own darling strings of bluebells almost awaiting to be chimed for spring.

Each flower is lovingly strung with iridescent and opaque beads adorning them to make them breathtaking when seen against a black background.

You only have to look at how they sit on this cushion to know how gorgeous they are.  I was asked for how many flowers and, as odd numbers are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, both my mother thought 5 would have the Goldilocks factor - IE - Just right!

My mothers arrived in a glittering silver topped box with a centre black bow adding that extra elegance that is reflective of my mother's style.  On opening the lid my eyes rested on the loveliest shades of yellow and green that were ever combined.  The black background made the beads stand out divinely.

Five yellow bell like flowers hung sweetly around the centre of the necklace.

Of course I got the camera out when I opened the brown parcel handed to me by Mr Postman.

I remembered my mother had left the earrings in their box on my dad's desk - (something that he got a little grouchy about.)

It was the earrings that prompted the request for the necklace as they were, in themselves, a work of art.

Before people wonder about prices she is absolutely affordable and the quality is worth double the prices she sells things for.

I have the link to her etsy shop up above and yoou can see for yourself how wonderful she is.

She is a woman who has been through so much in her life - yet will give up hours of her time to spend it reading my fanfiction and reviewing them all - so how could I not return the favour?

Believe me these photo's do not do them justice as the luminesence is somewhat lost with my camera as it is only a cheap one - so you will just have to trust me when I say how wonderful her jewellery is.

These earrings have the fey quality that makes you think a fairy crafted them and sent them out of the ethereal planes zipping along the clouds and landed on my doorstep due to a wish ...

Of course they didn't - fairies are too busy to do that.  But see how adorable they are nestled in their box - looking like they have woken up knowing they are to be worn tomorrow.

After all the separate pictures I took I decided to take them as a set - now all I need is a bracelet but I shall let her busy fingers rest for awhile and craft from her own pure imagination.

I love how my mothers glints and shines and how mine reminds me of the FOREST OF DEAN in spring when the bluebells carpet the cool. dappled shades of the woods and walkways.

Thank you Susan Bland for making us these delightful little adornments that I am sure we will cherish forever.

About Me

Okay ...

This is going to take awhile and this is a new blog - Make up disasters - nail varnish catastrophes and about me learning along the way.

Foundation is my can not do without product ... I HAVE lots of the stuff ... why is this?  Because I suffer from many skin complaints - eczema has scarred my legs and arms - roseacea plagues my face and I now use it on my mother's varicose veins - something she has said that has given her a little bit more confidence.

So take a trip down my disastrous journey and whoopsie moments and please bear with me as I have no training but I have, unknowingly, been putting the right shade of Foundation for most of my life ...
